My grandparents had one for a little while, but it was getting really old and went completely deaf and almost blind. It didn't see the train coming, unfortunately. Allowing one in the house and not the other is placing one dog higher in the heirarchy than the other. Dogs living with the same person should be treated equally. As for a small dog, go to your shelter and get one. You don't need a specific breed to have as a lap dog.
