redneckhottie asked:

I was wandering if anybody had any D.I.Y. tips I could use to pamper my outdoor dog alittle bit more now that its the hot summer? I dont think it matters but he is a rottweller beagle mix named peanut.(he was the runt of 16 puppies!)
He has a fairly large dog house,is in a kennal(large), and does not like water at all.(Ive tried a kiddie pool and sprinklers, he doesnt like them. I also cant bring him in the houe because he is not house broken. We are going to get an in-ground fence. Also If you know any tips for aggressive dogs I would appriciate it because he was abused for the first two years of his life and is now aggresive to men.
him being the runt of 16 has nothing to do with it! I am unable to bring him in the house unless you guys want him to rip our cats to shreds and atack family members. I love my dog very much and wish he could be in the house but he cannot!
Excuse me for trying to rescue a dog, but I cannot bring him in!
hes fixed and has all his shots.

If you own a Chow Chow or if you’re thinking about getting one, then this may be the most important letter you’ll ever read…

    Bring him inside.

Buy him a kiddie pool and let him lay in it or splash around.

Give him some frosty paw treats.

You could let him run in the sprinkler once and a while.
And, dogs love it when you give them ice, because it slips all over the place, it is fun for them to play with, it feels good on a hot day because it is cool, and it quenches their thirst.
If you really want to get fancy, and your dog liked the ice, you can make your own ice, but put a dog treat inside it before it freezes.

Get him a swimming pool, wet the ground so that he can lay there and cool off, and make ice cubes for him, either normal or made of some kind of broth.

Walk him in the morning when it is cool, for 30 min.

Get a misting hose to keep it cool for him.

Make him a sand box in the shade to dig in to cool off.

Get him a plastic kiddie wading pool.

Fill a Kong or two to chew on during the day

Get him a pool to play in and make sure he has alot of water to drink and a shady place to rest preferably on grass or a blanket and never tie the dog up you might consider bringing it into the house if possible as much as possible

you can build a dog house out of common wood at Lowe’s or Home Depot. you can get a kiddie pool, bring him inside, or get a mini FanSpray.

    Why is he outside?

first and foremost, bring him in,… dogs are social creatures and live in pack forms in the wild. You are alienating your dog from the pack (your family) which is miserable for your dog. Notice each time you go out, he gets crazy excited? This is because he is actually trying to get your attention and please you. He actually is thinking ” If I am good, I will be accepted by the pack”. And each time you leave him, you are telling him he is not…. poor guy.

Yeah you could bring the poor guy in the house where he is supposed to be.. How come he lives outside anyhow? It makes no sense to add a dog to your family and leave him to live in the yard.. Bring him in..
Doesn’t matter if he is runt of 16 or the largest of 16, he deserves to live in the house.

In hot weather my dogs always look for a cool piece of floor to sprawl out on, choosing cool over comfort most of the time – if you can’t have him inside, and he hates the water options already suggested, have you considered a shaded area with slate tile or similar set on a solid base? (you could get the tiles from a demolition/salvage yard rather than pay a premium price for it). Be careful not to get anything too smooth – don’t want him slipping when he’s trying to get up,

Cheers, and good on you for taking in a rescue.

As always make sure that he has tons of water, I find that my pitbull loves ices cubes (eating them and having them in his water dish) you can get certain molds to make larger dog bone typed ice cubes. Mine was a bit aggressive at first but I paid for a trainer to come in and help and now he is the sweetest dog around!
